PPL Mill Hill Tree Removal Plans

PPL has notified the Township that they are seeking an additional 50' of Right-of-way on both sides of the existing 100' Right-of-way corridor for their transmission line that crosses the Mill Hill Nature Preserve.   PPL needs Upper Hanover Township, Red Hill Borough, and East Greenville Borough to grant the additional right-of-way on properties purchased with Montgomery County Open Space funds that compose Mill Hill Preserve in Upper Hanover Township; or they could exercise their right to take additional Right-of-way by eminent domain.     The municipalities are reviewing the PPL proposal and data submitted.

Meanwhile,  PPL has notified the Township of their intent to perform significant tree removal and eradication maintenance that they are permitted by law to perform.   PPL "will be conducting routine vegetation maintenance on Township Property (Mill Hill Preserve) soon. As a part of this maintenance, PPL contractor Progressive Solutions will be treating incompatible tree species growing on the right-of-way with EPA-registered herbicide.   Any species that exhibit growth characteristics that may violate PPL EU Clearances in its lifetime are considered a "non-compatible species".  Additional PPL contractor Asplundh will be taking down 18 hazard trees along the edge of the existing right-of-way over Mill Hill.     The Progressive Solutions work is expected to be completed in July and August and the Asplundh work in late summer or early fall. "
