Road Department

The Upper Hanover Road Department is a four-member department led by Road Department Supervisor Jayme Benfield.  The road department employees are considered essential employees and are on-call to respond to emergencies and to take action to protect the public from roadside hazards.    Please submit a Request for Service directed to the Road Department to report a Road Obstruction.   For after-hours emergencies please call the State Police. 

The department has the following responsibilities:

  • Maintains function and safety of approximately 60 miles of local roadways; this includes infrastructure below and above ground.
  • Maintains all roadside signage in accordance with PennDOT regulations.
  • Performs roadside mowing on all local roadways.
  • Performs all winter maintenance activities on local and state roadways in Upper Hanover.
  • Maintains all Township Stormwater Management facilities, above and below ground. 
  • Maintains all Township Parks and Open Space
  • Responds to all 811 Call Before You Dig PA-One Calls. 
  • Maintains all Road Department Facilities and equipment and enforces industry safety standards. 
  • Responds to requests for service and concerns reported by the public.
Upper Hanover Township is extremely proud of the work these four employees perform on a daily basis and the work they accomplish under the leadership of Jayme Benfield.    It is critical that the public obey road signs alerting them to work being performed and to slow down in work zones.  Thank you in advance for helping us keep our employees safe.
